My Latest Passions

One reason I titled my web page “The Worlds of Meg Stout” is that I have multiple passions. When one of my interests emerges as my passion du jour, it becomes pretty all-encompassing.

Anyway, my latest kick/passion/obsession has been putting together 72-hour evacuation kits for our family. There’s a pretty comprehensive check list at lds.about.com (http://lds.about.com/library/bl/preparation/72_hour_kit.pdf).

I’ve got most of the standard stuff assembled. I put the items in a 10 gal plastic bin and have put the bin in the back of my car. I liked the idea of having an emergency 3 day supply of stuff in my car that I went ahead and began putting together a second kit for the other car.

Probably won’t go so far as to put my key personal documents and negotiable bonds/cash in the car kits though. Those can go in a binder we’ll grab on the way out, in case of emergency.

In other obsessions, I came up with a programme (as the English would say) for earning the LDS Young Womanhood Recognition Award in 46 days (the number of days between Mardi Gras and Easter, aka Lent, for example). One would have to be a pretty motivated and “good” person to start off with. I have a daughter turning twelve this summer, and I’m going to “dry run” the program with her. Even if we don’t finish in 46 days, it’ll be fun trying.

In other news (not an obsession, exactly) I’ve been exercising 30 minutes each day (walking and/or Wii Fit workouts) and logging all my food on Livestrong.com. I set my Livestrong.com calorie goal at a level that would theoretically make me lose 2 pounds a week. Most days the food I consume stays under that limit, and I find I am deterred from eating food when I know it will take me over any of the recommended daily amounts (sodium, fat, cholesterol, sugar).

I suppose I should blog more than once a month – then I wouldn’t have so many things to mention in any given blog…
