Helping Hands in New York

Yesterday was our first day in New York helping out. Us, in this case, being individuals from Northern Virginia, mostly Mormons from the congregations in and around Annandale, Virginia. Over 100 volunteers came forward when the opportunity was announced, so the church chartered two buses and made arrangements for us to stay at one of the churches in New York for the three days after Thanksgiving.

The Impact of Mitt’s Mormonism: Bible Belt Blue

The folks on PBS last night took a few minutes to proclaim that the country has gotten beyond the anomaly of Mitt's Mormonism, and showed exit polls indicating that practicing religious people (who voted) overwhelmingly voted for Mitt Romney. However, a glance at the shifts in democratic percentages versus republican percentages from 2008 to 2012 shows interesting trends. I'll leave analysis of the US Northeast to pundits. Awesome LDS Conference (October 2012)

Less than an hour ago the LDS church completed its October 2012 General Conference. For those of us who believe, it was great stuff. The outstanding memory from this conference was President Monson's Saturday announcement that the minimum age for missionary service has dropped to 18 for young men and 19 for young women.
